Maybe you’ve tried talk therapy, but you’re still feeling:

  • Stuck or repeating the same patterns

  • Shame or negative beliefs about yourself

  • Disconnected from your present and future goals

  • The need to avoid certain situations, people, or places

  • Overwhelmed or emotionally reactive to “minor” triggers

About EMDR Therapy

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR for short) is a type of psychotherapy that helps the brain heal from distress caused by traumatic experiences or overwhelming life events through bilateral stimulation (guided eye movements or tapping).

EMDR was discovered and developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro, a psychologist who made the connection between certain types of eye movements and the way that the brain stores memories.

  • EMDR typically follows an eight-phase protocol:

    1. History Taking & Treatment Planning: Together, we’ll explore your history, current symptoms, and identify key memories or experiences to "target" for EMDR reprocessing.

    2. Preparation: You’ll learn grounding and calming techniques so you feel safe, supported, and prepared for the following phases.

    3. Assessment: We’ll identify a specific memory to reprocess, including the emotions, negative beliefs (“I’m not safe”), and body sensations connected to it.

    4. Desensitization: Using bilateral stimulation (like eye movements or tapping), we’ll activate your brain’s natural healing process by stimulating both sides of the brain, allowing it to reprocess the memory and reduce its emotional intensity. During this phase, new thoughts, sensations, images, and feelings may emerge.

    5. Installation: Once the distress is gone, we’ll associate and strengthen a positive belief with the memory until it feels completely true - “I’m not safe” becomes “I’m safe now”.

    6. Body Scan: We’ll check for any remaining physical tension or distress connected to the memory.

    7. Closure: Each session ends with grounding and returning to a calm state to ensure you feel safe before leaving.

    8. Reevaluation: At future sessions, we’ll revisit your progress and decide the next focus area.

You are always in control throughout the entire EMDR process. You will never be forced to reprocess anything you’re not ready for. Your emotional safety is my top priority.

  • EMDR therapy has been extensively researched and is recognized as a highly effective treatment for trauma, PTSD, and other distressing life experiences.

    • Strong research support: Numerous studies have demonstrated EMDR's effectiveness in reducing PTSD symptoms and improving overall well-being.

    • Faster results: Compared to traditional talk therapy, EMDR often produces quicker results, with many individuals experiencing significant improvements within a few sessions.

    • Long-lasting effects: The benefits of EMDR tend to be long-lasting, with many people maintaining their progress years after completing treatment.

    • Widely recognized: EMDR is endorsed by major organizations like the World Health Organization and the American Psychiatric Association as an evidence-based treatment for trauma.

  • EMDR is highly effective for a wide range of emotional struggles, especially those connected to unresolved past experiences and trauma.

EMDR can help with the following:

    • Phobias

    • Sexual abuse

    • Grief and loss

    • Chronic depression

    • PTSD and complex trauma

    • Childhood abuse and neglect

    • Painful breakups and betrayals

    • Shame, guilt, and negative self-beliefs

    • Anxiety, panic attacks, and chronic worry

    • Birth trauma, infertility, or a difficult pregnancy

  • Since true healing is individualized, there is no one-size-fits-all answer here. The duration of EMDR therapy will vary based on your personal history, the complexity of the issues, and your specific goals.

While some individuals notice significant improvements after a single or few sessions, others benefit from a longer treatment schedule to heal the effects of complex or multiple traumatic memories..
